Going to improve the breathers all round, need to get rid of that big barrel at the front far starters, and wonded what any of you chaps have done different..

Ive found an old cover that someone had bashed in to clear the fan, so ive taken the barrel off as anyone else done this and what to do next, is it inportant to keep some of that steel wool thats in there, I plan to
link with rocker cover primary case and go to an oil catcher with filter

Was looking at going between the back of the engine and turbo, whats any one think ?

Cheers and thanks.. Alan

or just straight up and into the rocker cover with both breathers (timing chain and drop gear case) and a large diameter pipe out the rocker cover in to a catch tank

Weld that hole up, and fit a 1/2" bung on the top of the timing cover going to the rocker cover.

Also to answer your other question. There is no need for the gause in the can unless you are feeding the breather back to the carb. It is only there to stop ignition of the oil mist. If you are going into a catch tank there is no ignition sauce so no need for the wool.

Ben is right about the ignition source, but if you plan to rev it hard I would also install some gauze/wire wool somewhere.
Carl and I found on the DON due to the revs used it would push excessive oil out to the catch tank, a Happy Shopper *Finest* pan scourer did a wonderful job of seperating the oil from the air stream and allowing it to drain back down.

That is what i dont like about coming stright off the top of the timing cover, thinking the chain is going to throw oil right at the hole in the cover, it

on mine I have run the drop gears into the rocker cover and use the rocker cover as a kind of seperator, then run one big pipe to a catch can.

works well, 4k of road miles and theres about a cup full of "mayo" in there mainly from cold weather short runs

Might sound silly, but are you sure that the bottom hose is going to clear that new breather ?.

Yes it does mate already fitted now and engine running OK, can feel gases being emitted from pipe at the end of rocker cover..

This is a pic i took earlier in the build..

This is where it goes through the inlet manifold

Out to rocker cover

Want to make a catcher tank, and if it were possible drain back into sump through old distributer hole..

Hope you can see what i mean.. Alan

im gonna do something similar to this either tonight or weekend.

13mm hose to come from the timing breather and go into a T peice where the rocker cover breather is and these will be linked together. then i'm going round/under/over the inlet to have another T peice from the drops breather.

On the end of that T peice i have a reducer/enlarger (taking it from 13mm>19mm) which will go to a catch tank somewhere on that side.

not to bothered about the metal blobs on the breathers as eventually i'll save for a dsn one and make a new take off.

given me some inspiration though :)

I'm planning on doing it too while my engines out, both the timing cover and drops case into the rocker cover then a single pipe to the catch tank, god knows where that will fit
