hi guys
im currently building plans and decisions on a engine build and need some help.
after speaking to a mechanic who use to race minis etc and rebuild engine of all kinds to high specs he mentioned something about a few things being one of the best modifications to make to a block and gearbox.

he said that the best thing to do is block off the standard oil pick up pipe and and attach a pick up pipe that leaves through the back of the box and into a filter before entering the back of the block (drilled in) before going through oil pump. defeating the problem of swarf etc destroying the crank, pump and the rest in normal engines but due to the suction insted of the blowing like an oil cooler the pipe would have to be hydraulic hosing to prevent squeezing together...
following this he believed this is one of the best modifications to a block that is put under so much pressure and put to its limits like a turboed engine...

can any one else confirm this or does this have a downside or is there also other thing like this that can be done???

howis the best way of doing it or do you have a photos of it done? not too sure how its done as this is the first time ive heard of it ?
and finally is it something that i should seriously think of when building an engine hopefully pushed to its limits?

Not many people bother to be honest. Im going to run the filter through the drain plug hole, that would save drilling the back of the gearbox and having to weld it up. A hose can then be routed to the back of the box, into the original pickup gallery.

Resident Cylinder Head Modifier

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

if you are a real petrol head *smiley* by all means,

but did you know you can get hold of a magnetic trap which fits where, the central oil pic up fits, bolts at the back of the gearbox ........... these have been out years and do work! also inexpensive,

may save you from going down that route your mechanic friend suggested and compounding your engine build from the outset ......many peeps have took too much on as a FIRST build and got pissed of and failed ............hope this helps

Its a worthwhile mod although makes the engine bay busy.

Who is the mechanic that suggested it, only reason I ask is I know a few people in the Redditch area who have done this.
