Looking for a set of solid disks for my car. ideally grooved and drilled.

Minispares offer some with a straight line grooves across them, but i seem to remember these cracking on Mr wood's car.

Seen some grooved ones on ebay from minispeed, but they don't seem able to tell me if the grooves are in the same places on each side.

Anybody got any suggestions or places to avoid? Won't be buying from minisport...

The only ones that I am aware of are the Tarox ones available from minispeed

I would not bother, instead fit plain discs and spend the money saved on proper pads.

I have plain discs, mintex m1144 pads and minispares 7.5" calipers, and it is actually better than my 8.4" with blackstuff pads!
But im yet to deal with the likes of brake fade...

I've got the mintex pads already. *smiley*

the minispeed discs on ebay aren't drilled. not sure its worth £130 extra for a few holes...

Mini Spares offer two plain disks:
"Normal"

"Upgraded quality"

Anyone notice any difference on the car?

Dazed and Confused....

I've had a play with a set of the Tarox drilled ones, and I wouldn't fit them.

Where the holes have been drilled, it is impossible to de-burr half of the outer facing holes as the drive flange is in the way. I have my concerns regarding pad longevity...

Unbolt the drive flange then. I dont think anyone on TM is particularly worried about how long there pads last otherwise we wouldnt build stupidly fast cars

I seriously doubt it!

You can't unbolt the drive flange on a 7.5" disk... it's kind of integral.

The burrs on the Tarox discs were so stupidly sharp that they would just rip through a pad. Stupid power or not, fitting something that you know is a bad part to you braking sytem is just lunacy.

Slightly off topic, but could someone tell me if it's worth upgrading to 7.5" 4-pot calipers? Right now I got the stock 7.5" Cooper S setup.

Moreover would it also be worthwhile getting a brake servo?

you should be able to get in from the back with a whirly (de burring tool) to get the front side of the hole, also a flat file across the front of the disc and a round file through the hole would of removed the burr in the end as well.

one day boost will be mine!

Youre right, I had forgotten that since mine are 8.4" turned down to 7.5"

I seriously doubt it!

Doesnt drilling 'and' grooving brake discs tend to weaken them a lot and subject them to cracking, especiallu on the smaller discs?

I seem to remember being told to either go for one or the other?

I got a set of grooved 7.5" disks from Min-its years ago (5 angled slots each side) and run them with the stock S calipers and 1144 pads for about 10+ years and 60k miles. No cracks, pads still have life in them and disks only need replacing now. I think the grooves help keep the pad/disc surface clear of debris and help life slightly.

I've just ordered a set of non drilled, non grooved ones. It'll be right for my car.
