going to build a powerful a series engine hope to see 160hp in early planning stages wanting to pick brains, are people using verto or pre verto clutches. looking at med lightened verto flywheel and a vmax 220lb verto clutch, just want to know what others are using?

right been reading through the posts on the rts clutch seems like its proven to work and seems like a few of the the guys on here are using them. so I'm going to build one just a few questions. what pressure plates are people using one on clutch thoughts was a 1275 and a 998 one. seems to be mixed views on how hard the clutch pedal is? also do you get lots of wear on the thrust plates? any other things to consider when building one of these clutches? bolts, spacers washers ect? also what flywheels are people using? standard or lightened, i was thinking of using the MED ultralight steel flywheel?

how do you find the pedal? is rock hard or a little bit harder than normal? also have you had any problems with thrust washers or gearbox issues?

Due to the way it operates, Verto only puts 1/3 of the clamping pressure on the thrusts, which is why RTS or a strong spring verto is better for bearings than pre verto. Pedal is light on mine which is not RTS, but a very heavy duty verto spring. |

I have been advised to switch my verto clutch for a pre verto mechanism. Switching the whole thing seems like a pricey way to go around it. But as the one I have is standard from an mpi. Would it be a cheaper option to go down this route than to switch to a pre verto system? |

Would it be a cheaper option to go down this route than to switch to a pre verto system? probably advised by someone not up to date with modern techniques + rts can be had for cheap if you can get the parts cheap ( eg ive had complete flywheels, cluch mech, ring gear the lot of ebay for 20quid posted) and 5er for parts at auto jumbles with the mpi unit you already have thats half the parts there.. my peddle in my opinion is not heavy but then i am not small either however my brother cant press it though ( good anti theft devise ![]() one thing i can say it is alot lighter on the foot compared to the equivalent clamping force of a pre-verto system if peddle force is a concern verto is the only answer to holding decent power there is also the thrusts issue that a heavy pre-verto munches the thrust washeres Yes i moved to the darkside |

Rts cost me £30 for 2 clutches, £5 for bolts, £60 for the ap racing clutch plate, and a tenner for Brett to build it :p and I have a minispares lightened flywheel too, about £130-£140 IIRC. Audi s4 b5 - 470bhp & 486ft lbs

if the pedal is a problem then the arm on the wok can be lengthened to lighten it.

I can recommend the MED lightened verto flywheel. The latest one I got from Minispares was very poor machining quality.

When did you get this Paul? I remember a thread a while ago about the machining on them, but I thought they had sorted it as mine was fine?

Im using 2 turbo springs in mine and the pedal still feels lighter than a pre verto on a grey diaphragm.

cheers guys, ordered a steel lightened verto flywheel from MED today goin to make a start on the rts this weekend. i got a turbo clutch in at the moment and has been fine with 130bhp and 135ftlb torque so will be adding a 1275 spring to that. iv seen some people using just bolts and some using nut and bolts? I'm guess a good quality thread lock is a must. also what type of bolts are people using?
