Im trying to decide where's the best place to put my intercooler and i was thinking of putting it where the radiator is with the fan left on for cooling!?

I would fit a front mount rad instead.

It seems to be a good solution to keep the boost hoses short(less pressure drop i guess)?

Has anyone tried placing it here before? It would be interesting to see if it gets enough cold air through it etc.

Before i start spending loads on new radiators etc, i was after some opinons from some of you guys that know about more intercooling!?

Any ideas?

any1 yhat has seen my intercooler installs will know im no expert but id say leave your rad where it is and defo put your intercooler upfront where itll get the most cold air i cant see it being that efficent at the side*smiley*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

if you were to have it at the side it would definately be advisable to have a cold air intake pipe pointing in the direction of the intercooler, get as much cold air as you can to it

I guess the biggest problem with this install is that the air that goes through it could be warm as it's already passed through the rad.

Any intercooler in an airflow is better than no intercooler.
A highly efficient core intercooler at the side could be better than an inneficnt core unit at the front.
An efficient core at the front is by far the best.

Andy Cameron (class D regular top 3/2/1 placed in many past years) runs an intercooler in the same discussed location.

im replacing my clubman grill with an intercooler, there's plenty of room and it'd be ideal for air flow.......... most importainlty it raises your car's wank factor by a fair bit *happy*

you can just fit and rs turbo cooler on your clutch housing and it will get some airflow, it's about the best i found with out cutting things about.

that picture is just what i had in mind!!

at the moment iv'e got an R5 intercooler that i managed to salvage from my old car!

With a bit of slight "engineering" (cutting) i recon it would just fit.*happy*

Iv'e been recomended that a vectra turbo D intercooler is good, but i dont think ive seen one being used yet?

Cheers for help lads, at least i know its possible and if done right it can work, i'll have to do some thinking!!!

Cheers lads, After loking at the way turbo phil's mounted his
Iv'e decided to mount it the same way but on the opposite side.

It defeats the object of keeping my boost hoses short, but it sounds like its more efficient to have it in a place where theres more airflow than to have less airflow and shorter hoses.

i'll do some measuring up n see how things fit>*happy*
