hi

iv started to put my mini back together for its test build.

the stub axle's thread on the drivers side radius arm is stripped.

do you need special tools to take the stub axle out and refit a new one?
they look to be pressed in.

thanks

Theres a clip fitted on the damper side of the axle so dont try and drift it out from the damper side.

I don't know of any special tools, except maybe something to protect the threaded portion as its pressed or driffted into the arm. Would be sensible to heat the arm up and then press in the stub axle, if it doesnt just drop in anyway. Don't forget the clip though, as when you tighten up the hub nut, it'll just pull the stub axle through.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

If you have access to a steam lance at work or somewhere, remove all the fittings from the arm, remove the usually split grease tubes (unless they are steel) and lance the arms until piping hot, then give the pivot shaft end a good few dunks onto a block of wood. Make sure you have some sheets or something out, you are wearing overalls, and gloves (obviously) as the amount of grease you'll get out is phenomenal!

Mine from minispares have a plastic tube, i bought them ages ago and haven't done them yet. The plan was to fit the grease tubes and shafts after cleaning out as much of the old grease as possible, and then drill a small hole and fill the arm with expanding foam, so if the tubes do split there's minimal grease in the arms afterwards. But that's all down to if i can do that, i can't see why not!

ring problems are down to wear or abuse but although annoying it isn't a show stopper
