Right been assessing what i have got left after being robbed and its not alot. But i think with things i can sell i might be able to scrape together enough to place a b16a into my mini. And maybe include my 2056. Has anyone got a rough idea on the price of the conversion minus the engine and subby. As ill make a subby myself. To sell then i could have a short block ill break up which includes omega pistons, ph2 cam and a few other bits. A med sensor and pulley, megajolt setup, alternator carb etcetc. So im wondering whether selling this lot might be enough for me to throw in the towl and throw something else in it. Because although i have some bits adding up the rest of what i need and buying it again just seems to expensive right now as i dont have an a series to even start with. You're probably still looking at a lotta money on a honda conversion, lots of custom fabrication to be done, driveshafts, pulleys, alternator brackets etc. The only honda engine worth putting in if you're keeping it n/a are the 1.6 16v lumps, they sound immense! On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

I would keep the a series, without it its just not a mini any more in my opinion, k heads and all that are still ok to me though. You might have to go back to basics for now rick, but you can always build a turbo engine at a later date as JT says. Edited by george91 on 12th Dec, 2011. |

What i want is something nippy. And unique. Something that i can put together and get my mini on the road for a decent price. I can fabricate but cant built engines so im starting to think itl be the easier/ cheaper option. Im starting to think after i brought all the a series stuff and never got it do i really want to buy it twice. I really wanted a turbo a series but a vtec na might be like a new start. Less stress etc. With the view to plumb my turbo and cooler on it later. On 17th Feb, 2011 apbellamy said:

Does anyone know wether small block vauxhall engines take boost well? As you can get a low mileage lump for next to nothing, and am i right in thinking they go under a standard nose? On 17th Feb, 2011 apbellamy said:

I do agree with george I like the idea of a fast a series engine personally & without it you lose the heart of the car

if i was going to go for a cheaper conversion id go with a 2.0 8v vauxhall.... easy to june and few guys on the vasuxhall forums are boosting them.

No. stick a cheap n/a a series in there and drive it round like that until you can afford to build it as you planned.

Jamz i know i dont want a redtop as ive been tol theyre heavy and not worth the extra weight fot the gain in power. Im not decided yet but im not sure if i can bring myself to do the a series just yet as much as i do prefur the originality and the idea of the a series. On 17th Feb, 2011 apbellamy said:

Whichever way you look at it, performance costs.

Not a big fan of engine swaps, take the character away I think. If you do go honda then either b16b or b18cr get my vote, but you pay the extra premium. You can go d16 turbo aswell but that road wouldn't be an easy one to go down in terms of fitting into a mini. |

Either do what you planned or do a small block vaux c16xe or a honda motor, personally late d16 engines with sohc look better in minis and more room for a turbo. Drives

You have the basic components to build a decent engine. Forged pistons, block, decent cam etc.

but I would guess that a series will still work out cheaper as I bet there will be a lot of hidden costs & hurdles you prob not take into account when trying to work it out I could be wrong but that's my opinion
