Hi all,

I've just bought a metro turbo head which apparently is off a standard metro turbo. I've just got it home and checking over it I noticed a chunk missing off one of the valve guides (inlet). Its also got double valve springs, did the turbos come with these?

So my question is would it be something I could replace myself? Or engineer shop only? And are the guides any different to normal guides?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
James.

But do remember that if it is a turbo head the exhaust guides will be a different internal diameter to accommodate the thicker(sodium filled) exhaust valves.

Ok that's great thanks. Which guides do people recommend please? Looking on mini spares there are a few different types? The head will we used on a pocketed 998 which eventually will be force inducted :)

Thanks, James

If changing valve guides you WILL HAVE TO regrind the valve seats.

And ream the new guides out otherwise they'll probably pinch the valves.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

And you will need to open out the chambers to 28cc for use on a 998, assuming the pistons are flat topped.

Thanks for all the info...

Paul, would 28cc give a suitable CR for turbo or just for na?

Vegard by that do you mean regrind the valves in by hand, or get them re cut?

Richard, read quite a lot about the problems people have been having, thanks for the heads up!

Thanks, James.

28cc and flat topped pistond will give you 9:1 ish which is ideal for turbo but a bit low for na.

You need to recut the valve seats in the head.

It's best to have them reground by a professional machine shop if I recall correctly what Vegard once told me ...

Indeed. There's no way you can do this at home properly with cheap tools.
