I have been getting on pretty well with the welding on the mini until last week when the wire feed on the MIG stopped feeding wire. I have took it apart and the relay is ticking when the trigger is pulled (so I presume its doing its job) but the wire to the wire feed motor has no power. The wire feed motor or gearbox isn't jammed either. Any ideas? Its a SIP T150P. I won't get it in to be fixed until after christmas so wont get to do much on the car over the break*frown*

never assume :) most likely the relay is burnt out, but it could be the power supply that supplies the motor is dead, or the motor itself is dead, youll need to test a bit more thoroughly :)

I will have another look, the relay is mounted directly on a circuit board so I know its getting power but the leads from the circuit to the motor are dead. In that sense I can't test the output at the relay directly. Hmmm, I guess it could be the relay then. Haven't been impressed with the welder (the torch has broke countless times) but then it is a "hobby welder" after all. Thanks guys!

Sips are a bit shit,

you can stick a meter across the relay terminals and meadure the resistance.

Arent the wire feed mechanisms absolute shite on SIP welders?

I have used two different SIP welders in over 25 years -the second one is only 5 years old.No problems with the first one, but SIP themselves told me that the quality is down on 25 years ago.

When I needed a fix under warranty they sent someone out promptly so I cant complain.

They are at the cheap end of the market so its not fair to compare them with kit costing 2 or 3 times as much.
