maestro turbo engines are going to be even more difficult to find, then when you do find one they're an O series i think so in no way are they as easy a conversion as the metro one.

you shouldnt need to find a whole turbo engine just the turbo bits and bolt them to a normal 1275 engine which will be pretty much the same as a turbo lump.

The good thing about the O-series is that is approx 600lbs. :)

if your going to that extent, you may as well put in a vtec or xe lump, same amount of work

Ben,

Any conversion is not "easy" or else everyone would have them.

What you need to do is match the scope of your project with your own ability... if you can't do a certain part then be prepaired to pay someone else to do it for you... theres no shame in that!!

What is it you want from a mini?

All the A+ in-line blocks (which is the same as a modern transverse layout) had a block that looked like the MPi one... they are different.

The Maestro's in later incarnations used a converntional type gearbox on the end of the engine, it was a VW gearbox I believe. (5 speed)

O series engine......also found in Sherpa vans......what a piece of cr@p......although bolting the montego turbo assy onto a raggy old Sherpa would be quite amusing.....

Yep i think you are right tom i have a friend who fitted a a series engine into a golf. He used a maestro block i think with all the turbo parts so that it was turbo. That was using a vw gear box. It was in performace vw magazine i think!!

I was just thinking - I'm sure I saw an a-series in a Nova shell once - it was a grass-tracker or something similar...

The best use of mini/metro parts I have seen recently was at an autograss meeting. Class Two cars are allowed up to 1300cc engines as long as they were fitted as standard to that car. Hence a Nova must use a Nova engine, Micra must use a Micra engine etc. The engines also have to breath through a resitrictor of a certain size (not sure what)
However it seems that the carbs the Novas came with don't take kindly to being used on a circular restrictor, so a lot of the guys have junked them and are using.....wait for it.....a single SU instead!!!!!
