Newbie here, always wanted a turboed or supercharged car. I currently have a 1993 1275cc mini sprite, stock apart from a play mini back box and I have a HIF 44 to put on soon.

I have read some over on the mini forum. I think its easier to super charge my engine as it is as will not require to much engine work and can even be run with a de-comprresion plate but not best idea it seems.

As to add a turbo would a whole 'turbo type' engine be needed or can revised head etc be used on my current engine. I would like to keep my current 1275 as its low mileage about 24000 miles now.

Supercharging seems to be about £1500 or more, how much is it to do a basic turbo set up?

Thanks

Lee.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

a warm welcome!

firstley supercharger setup on this forum........ if iam correct are not well liked and the guys have not had much total sucess, i must warm to that also

turbo produces more power and is the right way to go
for a balistic turbo engine your looking at 4k plus a further £500 or so for the other parts ..ie pump pressure reg intercooler and hoses etc....

have a look on the beginners guide ....this will give you a good grounding.

Hope this helps *smiley*

Welcome to TM, just to echo Benross' comment really, superchargers dont really work unless you're 100% dedicated to it, many have spent hundreds trying to get them to run correctly, then ended up taking the supercharger off in favour of a turbo. But if a supercharger is what you really want, then have a go!

I think that's a bit unfair.

Gr4h4m's SC12 charger conversion works very well. I'm sure mine will too (famous last words).

I would say the readily available kits for the M45 don't work well because of the inherent design problems and the charger not really being suitable for the application. There may be others out there much more suited to the A series, just nobody has found/used them yet.

Turbos do make more power, more readily. But then it's not all about power...

thanks all.
I guess I dont have a preference, its just Sc you can buy kits more easily but as you say dont mean to say will work well.
I need to find out what I need to do to my A+ engine first to turbo it, read some in beginners tech and seems I can turbo mine with out swapping whole engine atleast.
i a not looking for anything mental power wise. at the moment I am adding a megajolt unit to.

Thanks

Lee.

lol as I said above I dont have a preference on one or the other just seems there are more kits with all bits available to SC.
To turbo im going to need to do a lot more reading and see if its possible with my current engine first with out to many mods is the idea.

Is there a simple answer to what I need to change on my A+ lump to turbo it?
