My CD/DVD player has stopped playing DVDs but still plays CDs fine, when I put in a DVD it comes up on screen saying 'no disk'. Would it have a seperate laser to read CD and DVD? Ive got a CD laser cleaner but wonder if a DVD laser cleaner would help it - if theres a difference

I seriously doubt it!

It always did, it just doesnt now. I tried a CD cleaner disk but wonder if there is a seperate laser for DVDs which the CD cleaner disk doesnt clean

I seriously doubt it!

Both CD and DVD use the same type of laser (red), a CD cleaner can be used for DVD as well

How many DVD's have you tried? If it's an old DVD it may have come to the end of it's usable life, and the layers may have started to delaminate

Nah chap, one laser i would have thought.
Try the dvd in a pc or laptop, you'll find out what's at fault then, or another DVD player or Games console if you have one. Or all of them. If it reads in some but not others its more than likely the disc.

Hmm. Might be an electronic fault then, have you had it long?
Last time a laser gave up on me was my original playstation and i swapped it from an older broken one i had.
Im guessing you'll probably have to get it repaired or buy another. If it's not very old you may be under warranty.

Warranty has just run out. If its the same laser reading both types of disk then it cant be the laser at fault, can it?
I think a new one is on the cards, looking at new electronics this week anyway

I seriously doubt it!

Probably won't be the laser, but all the electronic gubbins attached to it that control it. The Playstation had all that attached to the laser via one of those thin ribbon cables that look a bit like a pcb. So i swapped the lot over. Might well even be something completely irrelevant, if it was an expensive one id be inclined to get it repaired, if sub £300 id probably just buy another one, there's some good buys about.
The currys/pc world clearance centre might be worth a punt if there's one nearby!

is it an original disk or copy if its a copy it may just be the way it was burnt some files dont play on some older dvd players, if it is an older dvd player you may want to upgrade to a newer one they play any file type now

Done now needs redoing lol

Paul have you played that disc before? Just checking its not the wrong region.....

You can norm get a region crack on the old google that lets it play all regions.

I did have one that went out of region it had reset its self to factory and wouldnt play our discs.....

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Try a region reset there will be an ahow to on the internet somewhere for your model. you will then press a load of buttons on your remote whilst standing on one leg

Sounds like laser to me. Okay for CDs but not dual layer DVDs. Double the info and its throwing a wobbler.
