Ive bought myself a little milling machine, but I need to buy a new motor for it.

The mill is the type with a fixed knee, instead the spindle moves up and down, and the motor is mounted inside to column, so im restrcited size wise.

This is the style im after, but I need it to be no larger than 80mm dia and about 3/4 hp single phase. It a brushed motor that runs on a variable speed control. Would anyone be able to help out with the correct terminology of the mount or give a supplier that lists dimensions as well as specs?

Cheers
Matt

Pic no work.

I bought an inverter for my mill, it converts 1ph 240v to 3ph 415v.

My mill has 4 off 3ph motors, so the inverter allows me to run them all. As you will find out, a lot of the motors on mills will be specific oddballs and hard to find replacements.

image no work.Does now *happy*

Whats wrong with the motor you have? burnt out or 415v?

The only place I know is up this end of the country (despite what the name suggests) that might be able to help, ar Oxford Electrical. A small outfit, where we get our motors re wound at work.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Tom - image changed now. Im sure there is something around to suit, its just trying to find it. Most sites are very vague on dimensions.

Colin - It came with a motor, but its not right for the machine, and I can't get it to fit inside the column securely. I ended up chopping the mount flange up and welding a new plate to it, but still it won't fit securely. The original had 4 M8 sized bolts holding it in with a pcd of 52mm but the mtoro I have has been bolted in using 2 M5 bolts...*oh well*

Sounds and looks more like a servo motor than just an ordinary motor?

It made by Tsochi machinery?! Ive never heard of them. Its an old machine with imperial units. Google came up with nothing so I assume they no longer exist. *oh well*

Its similar to the first one, apart from the motor is inside the column.

Its this, the motor sits inside the column hanging underneath the plate where the draw bar goes through.

Might be easier and cheaper to have it rewound. Have a look on yell.com for someone local

I would of gone down that route, but I don't have the original motor to rewind. *oh well*
