Trying to figure out what the best ratios will be for me..

i have a 1098 N/A on 175/50R13 (Yokohama A539)
it is a street car some day it will be a turbo but i cant see that anytime soon = (

im looking at the ST Abingdon mini spares gear set but im worried with my 3.647 dif first gear will be to tall?

green is my curent ratios stock gear set with 3.647 diff
white is Abingdon ratios with 3.647 diff

first gear seems to tall in the graph as i have tryed to take off in my current 2nd gear witch was hard i could do it but had to ride the clutch to much for my liking if i was to do it all the time.. however in the graph 2nd gear is not as tall as 1st it might be ok?

green is my current ratios stock gear set with 3.647 diff
white is abingdon ratios with 4.350 diff

on the 4.350 diff it looks a lot better with 1st being a tad taller and 3rd a touch shorter

dose anyone run these ratios?

Hang on a minute, you have gone from originally thinking about a 2.7:1 diff or something like that, to a 4.3:1 which is total opposites.

Pulling away will be easier on a 3.6:1 then a 3.1:1

Regardless of gearset 4th is a direct drive so entierely dependant on final drive ratio.

What exactly do you want from the engine and what is your driving style? Take it steady or rag it?

I think your looking for a hle economy gear set with a 3.2 fd

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Betwix Harrogate and York

Why not look at the clubnan set, this has a lower 1st gear.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

Your right I don't know what the hell I want..
What I need to do is get a Day car and have the mini as a toy!
My driveing style is 90% of the time spent at full noise..

3.6:1 should be nice then, especially as its a 1098 with a hottish cam in with foot down driving style.

it'll still do 60 at around 4k rpm too.

I second that emotion. You don't need to be revving the tits off a 1098 too much as the crank won't like it.

At first I wanted a tall diff but that was before I new how tall it made first gear.. I really don't want first any taller that second..

Economy gearset and 3.2 diff!!

Use the guessworks calculator. input your pre A+ gearset, 1:1 drops and 3.65 FD then compare it to the Metro HLE gearset and 3.2 FD, then tell me whether your first or second gears are going to be a problem?

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

my thoughts are with sprockets........ but also
if you are going to fit a turbo at a later date it would benefit from a 3.1 fd so the choice is yours!

you have to make a decision ????

You are going to have to make some compromises somewhere. You can't have it all.
