Australia oi oi oi!

howdy lads.

so the engine stead on the clutch side is not coming out.

the bolt in questions is the one that goes down through on the firewall side under the clutch cylinder,

it was so rusty it's not funny, undone the bottom nut and i cant pull it out or get a socket on it as it is rounded and rusted bad.

so i have bashed the shit out of it, heated it, sprayed cold freeze release you name it she wont budge.

it has some how what i think welded it self to the sleeve on the steady.

i was thinking the next best thing would to drill the bolt away? any other ideas? i cant get a hammer in there to hit it from under neath either.

tried a c clamp no good either.

don't you hate these things!

just looking for a few more ideas.

maybe drilling it out from top is the answer?

What about those Irwin nut/bolt remover things. I've got a set and they work great with rounded off heads.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Id drill it out, bashing it is going to break the spotwelds that holds the bracket on the bulkhead

I seriously doubt it!

I had a similar problem when I was refurbing my rear subframe. I've just left it for now and I'll come back to it at easter.

I have come across this a few times; the bolt will be stuck in the sleave;

you could try penetrating oil for a while but the quick success i've had is the cut the head off and if you can, get a cut off grinder to chop the excess off the bottom on the bolt and then prise the steady out from between the brackets.

As Paul mentioned, the spot weld can be easily broken on the lower bracket if too much force is used though

bit long winded but you could remove the master cyls and then the plate and deal with it on the bench

It's stuck through the spot welded plate on the bulkhad though bud.
The only thing i can think of is grind the top off, and prop the engine steady up off the transfer case with a bitta wood to stop too much pressure pushing the bracket down, and snapping it off when you drift the bolt out with a BFH.

You are talking shite. All that will achieve is to bend the lower bracket or break the spot welds.
The bolt will be seized in the metal sleeve in the rubber bush.

If you prop it close to the bolt you're hitting from underneath, it'll support the bulkhead bracket and steady as you hit the bolt downwards. Unless he has something long enough to prop it up off the floor the right length

You are still talking shite.

It is SEIZED IN THE BUSH SLEEVE.

You will not be able to hit it hard enough to get it out. The bush sleeve will not fit through the holes in the upper or lower bracket. All you will do hammering is make a fucking mess.

If the engine is out, get a hacksaw and cut through the bolt just above and below the plates.
Otherwise remove master cyls and top plate and then deal with the dog bone off the car.

Australia oi oi oi!

hey guys i got the bolt out.

what i did was i drilled through it.

tom is right, there was no way i could smack the bush through the hole.

i tried! i ended up bending the bracket on the bulk head enough to get a angle to pull the bolt back out.

got it out finally happy days.

now i need a new bush.. that thing is welded on so hard i tried to heat it on the desk in the vice smacked it so hard and still the little thing will not move.

to much effort lol easier to buy a new one.
