I believe it is a body number, not really required.

The two i had on mine, one was the vin number, and the other was paint code and trim. Obviously i binned the 2nd one when i had to move my chassis number. But that was an '89.

is the second (coloured red) not a commision number? not that it matters. it is the Vin that you need

RG is right. Red is comission number.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Brett, is it a thin metal strip, about 1/2" wide by a couple of inches long, painted body colour? If so as I said in the first place, it is I believe a body number.
Only the early cars that have a chassis number have a commission number. Later cars that have a more modern VIN number, have this body number on a spot welded painted strip.

and

They require a copy of your logbook for verification

theres somewhere local to me that stamps them for a 5er, so buying from minisport is wasting a 10er. for me anyway.

do they use the right stamps? the vin number should be raised on the face of the plate. normal stamps are sunk on the face

just found the thread on it and they engrave them not stamp, 'my mistake'.
on that site that sells them it says that engraving is fine so i suppose the question is... is it?

Minimail do all the stamping for minisport im lead to believe. They made my plates up and they were identical to the originals. So you may aswell go to minimail at least minisport can't cock it up then. lol

They are stamped from the back of the plate, so you need the special reversed stamp...not cheap ive looked!

after lots of googleing all i can find about vin plates :-
From the MOT reg 6.8
A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN or chassis number) is required on all vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1980, except those which are
-Kit cars
-amateur built vehicles
other info from mr google is:-
pre 1980 cars, the vin plates were not to the iso standard so a repro vin with an engraved number is fine, post 1980 they have to be to the iso standard, so basically they have to be as an original one would be.

And make sure your V5 is right, its amasing how many people have V5's with incorrect details (probably down to typo's). They mis-spelt mini on mine once. lol
