Hello guys,

I'm going to be putting my engine in very soo and one thing that has been bugging me is how to do the drive shafts do you slide them into the pot joints as you lower the engine in? Or do you fit when the engine is in position?

Many thanks Rick

Shropshire.

I always fitted them when the engine is in position.

Take the hubs off and then just slide them into the pot joints.

That's brilliant. Thank you. One question is it better to use the cable ties or steel bands Wen attstching the boots?

Ive always split the top ball joints to move the shafts out of the way, then pushed them in place when the engine is in position. Its not too bad the other way just more of a fiddle.

I use the steel bands now, I find they never come off where in the past the cable ties have.

Another silly question, its been soo long since I took the original engine out which side does the longer shaft go? I think I might opt for some steel bands that Cv grease is nasty

Many thanks again

Short shaft is pass side.

And you can easily push the two shafts into place as you are lowering the engine into place. Saves any fucking about with balljoints etc

Cable ties work fine., Use decent ones though. And ensure the mating surface where boot and joint meet is totally spotless on both joint and rubber.
If it's all greasy it's easier for it to slip back off again.
