if you've not got space inside the garage, could you not build a small enclosure externally to house a compressor?

Can't you just put a compressor on casters and roll it in and out of the garage to paint the car?

there are quite a few web pages on rollering cars,

essentially you put on a lot of thin coats using a foam roller, and it should give a smooth finish, if you dont thin the paint enough you get an orange peel effect.

for the fiddily bits (gutters etc) use foam brushes.

the other trick seems to be to do one panel at a time,

Quarry Bonk

I don't think it really matters what you use, just flat it all back afterwards to the finish you want and polish it up, just put plenty of thin coats on!
A mate of mine did that with his bonnet, you couldnt tell it was rollered haha. It was that good one of the chaps who demonstrates cleaning products couldnt tell, and said it was actually smoother than the self sprayed bonnet of another mates lmao.
