Mate has been borrowing my 3hp 25l compressor for a while, he's used it several times and yesterday it wouldnt do a thing.
Our first instinct was to replace the solenoid/pressure regulator valve as nothing was initially happening at all. We've replaced that, now the motor turns extremely slowly and builds no pressure and cuts out after a few seconds on the motors own cutout switch. I don't really know the history of the compressor but its probably seen a bit of use beforehand, I'm thinking it may be worth changing the capacitor on the motor. Anything else that may be worth looking at apart from the obvious seized bits and stripping and rebuilding the motor?

Thanks.

Sounds like the motor is fubar, you could try chaning caps if you have some, honestly if its a belt drive probably better to try and just get another compatable motor, I pick old brook crompton types and the like up from autojumbles and the like for a matter of £20-£50 they last forever if not abused, much better a lot of modern shite.

The motor was fine before, it ran this morning at full chat and cut out in a few seconds, then did nothing until i changed the pressure bit earlier. I don't think it's the motor but im not going to write it off just yet. I'll nick the cap off my other compressor and try that first, Not sure what drive it is, the motor just dissapears into the block, im guessing geared onto the crank. But I'll keep that in mind if the motor is shagged. Cheers Oli.
