Hi all here's my question. The outlet from the t3 turbo is about 40mm and the plenum inlet is about the same.

I brought an intercooler from my local scrap yard with 40mm inlet and outlet will this size pipe be ok 130 bhp?

I don't want to increase the pipe to big to introduce more lag so I thought if the pipe work stayed the same it would be better??

Any thoughts cheers Rick

40mm will in theory be better than 50mm at that power. The only reason most stick with 50mm is that it's cheaper and more readily available. Also lot's of the most suitable ICs use 50mm.

I have an intercooler from a 1.7 tdi astra which looks to be a reasonable size and should offer some quite good cooling. I just don't want to enlarge the volume to much so tht boost takes even longer as I belive t3 turbos take a while to get wound up

Cheers Rick

To be honest, if you do the maths you won't really notice the differance. But keeping it all 40mm will be good.

My intercooler uses 2.5" inlet and outlet into a Maestro Turbo plenum chamber (2.5" inlet) and it comes on boost about 2200 and that's on a t3.

Ok guys I will have a search around for some pipe work. Would it be ok to use 40mm from the turbo to cooler then 50 from the cooler?

Cheers for your help peeps

Just use 2", it's easier, bends are readily available etc.

You'd need an atomic clock to measure any difference in spool time between 40mm and 50mm plumbing unless it's a few hundred metres long

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
