Hi Guys

Finally got my car booked in for its MOT. I'm slightly paranoid about the emissions side of things and fear it might fail or will........and becuase MJ is new to me still aprehensive as to if i will be able to get it through with just me and a laptop :S

Do you have any tips on what to do to help squeeze it through. i've got a std needle in it at the moment and i think the std turbo map for the MJ is pretty retarded if i remember correctly although i may retard it more just for the MOT and lean it off slightly?

Also i plan on warming the car up fully first.

Anymore tips?

Ahh pity. Im not sure the MJ will help with emmisions? Unless the ignition was well out, like you say make sure its not running super rich and get the car nice and warm.

It's all in here http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/In%2...h%20Edition.pdf

Page 21 and 93 are relevant. I'm prety sure that the limits can be met with the right needle (i.e. one specificly for the MOT)

k reg SPi's were all Coopers, so if your car is a Cooper, then it's 0.75%CO natural idle, 0.3%CO and 0.95 to 1.09 lambda fast idle and less than 200ppm hydro carbons

If the engine is the cooper engine and the number is visable, with the cat removed, and they test it as it should be with a CAT test, it'll fail, no amount of tweaking will get it to pass on the CAT test Hope that the tester just does BET Basic Emissions Test, 3.5% CO.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

The engine number isnt on it anymore, maybe that might help me a bit. all he will know is the engine will be a 1275 with a turbo on the back. It doesnt have a cat either just a straight through system with back box........

oh jebus lol

My 998 Turbo is a K reg. Originally a carbed Sprite and it had a fuel line and a breather line. If it was an SPi then I think it would have 3 lines ???

It also had a Cat when I got it.

Without an engine number they have to assume the engine is the one numbered in the log book.

Tell him it is a metro turbo engine and push him to test it as one, since who in their right mind would fit a turbo to an spi engine *wink*

paul, im unsure about the breather line i just have 2 copper lines by the wiper moter and i dont remember having these on my last mini with was an 89; think that just had 1. although i could be wrong i've never owned an SPI before and as i get older my memory gets worse!

sprocket, well that may work to my advantage then as they thought it was a metro turbo anyway so if i just try and blag the engine is from one of them and can it be tested as such :)

When i'd just fitted my n/a 1275 engine and rushed it to an mot garage (kwik fit) the Co2 broke the machine for 10 minutes. It was at 10%, whoops.
But the chap kindly readjusted it to pass the emissions test at 1.7%. It was running a bit lean then so i had to tweak it up a touch when i left the mot centre.

Don't the new MOT regs require a cat to be fitted if it had one when new, regardless of whether the emissions are low enough?

yh, if the car originally had a cat as standard it must have a cat for the MOT no matter what the emissions are. but if the engine is older the the car you MOT it to the engines age regarding emissions etc... proof might be needed depending on who does the MOT etc..

You need a friendly mot man that will walk back with the probe until it reads correctly :)
