on my new SC primary, it doesnt have the flat face just after the gear like the the one does in the pic below. Does the crank oil seal sit beside that and does it matter mine doesnt have that flat ring? Cant think how else to describe it.

got one sat on me desk here that doesnt have it either dude, pretty sure the s/c primary in my engine doesnt have it either.

They don't have them on SC primary gears, on both sets of SC drop gears i've had they didn't anyway.

Wonder what it's for?

All I can think is it's a spray deflector to stop the oil that is squeezed out between the teeth as they mesh from being aimed right at the oil seal?

Either way, consider it a weight saving...

yes dave hit the nail on the head, it deflects oil form the helical gears and also any oil between the seal and the disc will be forced down the holes. always check the holes when rebuilding engines as the block up and can cause oil to sent through the seal.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas
