Might sound like a daft question, but what do most of you use for engine builds and such?
Something with a nice satiny sheen to it, not like your typical hammerite silver finish.
The reason for asking is that I'm going to be getting some soon when i strip my subframes down, I'm going to be painting my tie rods, brake calipers, drums, bellhousing, gearbox exterior, random engine parts etc. Looks a bit like anodised alloy.
I ideally want it to be relatively chip resistant, and the stuff i have seen looks relatively easy to clean.
Pretty sure whatever it is, Steve (benross) uses it, as do a few others.
Also has anybody ever painted subframes successfully in hammerite? (Aerosol or brush) I reckon it'll be more durable than powdercoat.
Cheers.

ive painted subframes in hammerite, the proper stuff and the cheap £1 a tin stuff. same with both, doesnt seem to chip off,but you can scrape it off.

Heya,

Have a look at my build thread - http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=451008

I have just used Hammerite on the above mentioned parts.

More than happy with finish.

My experience with Hammerite is that it always chips easily.

I think a Hammerite finish always looks like a bodge job, unless it is covered with bodyschutz or similar.

Northamptonshire.

Im using hammerite Don't look bad :) Up side if it gets chipped you just repaint it but if powder coat chips you can't just spray more on, and it let water side between the plastic and metal and cause rot :(

This is a good paint, gives a good shine that lasts longer than all others I’ve tried, there’s a few down sides
to this paint, it dries quick so does not like you going back over it till it dries, not suitable for large suffices, great for brackets, suspension bottom and top arms, easy to touch up when you have split ball joints and track rod ends, don’t think there is a paint that does not chip, I haven’t found one yet.. Thanks for the replies lads. Not a spec of yellow going near my car fortunately brett!
All black/red/silver. Anyone have red subframes? Just a thought, bring some bold colour to the car, except the rollcage.
