Right i have a problem

Having put the sccr gearbox back on the engine and back in the car after quite some time of rebuilding it with new uprated synchro rings and diff i now have another issue.

This time its 4th gear.

When going from 3rd to 4th it simply wont go into 4th! Then it wont go back into 3rd without blipping the throttle. Please tell me this is not the synchros!!

Any help would be of use.

clutch drag.

The pre verto clutch can be tempremental. Might need the pushrod lengthening a little

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Not really, i had the same issues with mine, i had to drill and tap the end of the pushrod and put a bolt in. Try popping a small nut between your pushrod and piston to see if that helps.

Tomorrow im going to have a gander at my clutch setup, i bled it out before i took the car on the run, but perhaps theres still some air in it also. It still felt a bit spongey.

Then ill look into the pushrod.

Are most people still running the standard clutch arm with a grey plate?

If you had clutch drag it would be hard to get, and would clunk in first and reverse gears, surly would it not.. Alan

i agree with nala, if its only 3rd and 4th id expect the problem to be somewhere other than the clutch?

It goes into all the gears when the engine is off.

I think it could be the release arm bending or the hole in the cylinder being in the wrong place allowing too much travel before it starts to build up pressure. The latter being a bit of a long shot.

Going out this afternoon to see if its not just me being a useless dick with the quickshift.

Mine never felt right with the quickshift to be honest, too tight and easy to miss gears - no matter how careful I was to do it right.

Took a bit more slack out, and guess what.... it goes into fourth!

I honestly think it was me being a nob with the quickshift, it does feel like there is very little tolerance with getting it in the gears.

exactly me sentiments, why do we need a quickshift when we all know how fast our wrists can work when we want them to,lol

Never had a probelm with mine, and its one of those cheapo wankshifts

it's not a quick shift anyway, its a short shift. If you relax and take your time, it works perfctly well.

shortening the gearstick has the exact same effect

Got to admit, I was put off the idea of fitting one before when i bought a cheapo one, so I sold it, But with an internal gear selector I reckon it would be quite nice, close to the wheel for nice easy changes, sick of having to move my hand like a blur from 2nd to 3rd and sometimes getting it wrong! :/
