has any ones used a decompression plate. any issues.

found a high quility one

could easily lower the compression and not pay over the odds for a 295 head.

just a thought.

For the price of a de comp plate and 2 headgaskets your nearly at the price of one of the head gurus opening out your chambers, benross or turbo phill can do this.

Cant think of any circumstances I'd ever consider using a decompression plate.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

booton ,

in case it helps , i know of two turbo mini engines running with two head gaskets ,up to 12 psi , neither suffered any problems .

i also know of a turbo min running 15 psi with water meth inj using a 1.8mm stainless spacer plate with one gasket either side . it never blew either .

editted to add ,

i completely forgot !! my own 498cc bike uses a decomp plate ,i knocked up from a sheet of 1.8mm mild steel ,been fine for 10 years on 15 psi ,135 bhp .11000rpm max .

I think a decomp plate is a bit of a bodge, but there are several reasons where there is a god argument to use on.

One important point if you do decide to use one. The link you have is for a small bore. If you are using a 12G940 you need a largbore plate and largebore head gaskets.

Some years ago a friend obtained a development A-Series head from the back door of the factory that was totally flat - no combustion chambers at all. To get a sensble compression ratio he had to run a decomp plate and was forever blowing gaskets.
One quick chat with the metallurgists at work later, he had another plate made up out of cast iron - and never blew another gasket.

All the commercially available plates I've seen are made of aluminium, which has a dramatically different expansion ratio to cast iron - best guess was that the plate tears the gaskets during warm up/cool down.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.
