Been having a look at my mini today to try and sort a few electrical gremlins out, namely misfiring under load when the lights are switched on but fine when the lights arnt being used, any way I noticed tht it has a 65dm4 dizzy fitted which after a quick google is the electronic dizzy for a 1275. What will the effects of this be on my 998?

I can get this problem with mine, if I'm running the heater cd player lights etc. and I have the 65dm4 as well. Haven't really tried resolving the issue apart from switching off the heater when I slow down.

I don't think the dizzy has anything to do with the other problem, just wondering how far out the advance curve is and how it would affect power.

How old is the ignition switch. If it is an old unit the contacts inside may be worn out. worn contacts equals high resistance when put under load. Remember everything but the hazard lights passes through that little black box. Chapter fix than a dizzy.

When you load up the electrics grab hold of the ignition loom if its warm its fooked!

Check the voltage to the coil when the misfire is there. If it is getting dragged down then there is your problem. Mr Joshua makes a good point, I had a 206 in the other day, the heater amongst other things were not working electrically, that was eventually traced back to the ignition switch.

Cheers for the replys, by ignition switch do you mean on the bottom of the barrel? How can i test the voltage at the coil when it misfires as it only misfires under load when going uphill, won't do it on the spot with everything turned on???
I don't think the dizzy is to blame, I was just curious of the effects on performance with having a 1275 dizzy on a 998.

I've just been out an checked the wires to the ignition and every ire has been cut and rejoined, one with a household block connector and the others are just twisted together with a bit of electrical tape over them down by the block connector. I'll give them a solder tomorrow and see if that helps some.

Don't bother the solder acts like a small value resistor. Order a new one and save the pain.

I've swaped over the ignition switch today but no different, tidied a bit more of the loom up as well. just going to have to try another coil and see what happens now.
