I have a mate that works for the police, but you can loose your job for obtaining info without a valid reason..

You can apply to the DVLA for the registered keeper, but the registered keeper is not obliged by law to divulge any information as to who the driver is, and the driver is not necessarally the registered keeper

Edit* lol, should have read the full post

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Beginning of Feb we were hit by - it turns out - an uninsured driver. We only owned the car for 7 days ffs!!

however..

Insurance company just called my wife and it looks like they will cover it, and they have passed the details we have to the police.

Its an odd one as he had insurance documents in the car and i managed to nab the policy number and company off the front..

The car appears to be insured for the name he gave me, but not for the reg attached.

As it looks like we are still going to have the repairs covered, im not as mad.. and if the plate is fake i couldnt find the fecker anyway.

It's hard to believe, that when I was involved in an accident a while back, my insurance claimed they couldnt get the other parties details from registration due to Data Protection Act. Like WTF, that was their bloody job !!

I ended up having to get the info to them myself ( after calling the person who crashed into me )

You could always try googling, you never know what might come up. Or maybe an MOT guy or something ?

At the scene of an accident, ALWAYS take photos. Of the scene, the cars involved, the registrations etc etc. And all the better if you can include a photo of the other driver.
The info can very easily come in handy later, and virtually everyone has a camera on their phone these days.

Yeah I took plenty of pictures. All seems to be going ok - but you know what insurance is like.. Fine until they have to pay out.

I find they are never fine when it comes to genuine claims. If it's dodgy as fuck, they'll gladly throw money at them though.
Genuine claimants get treated like shit.
