ive had this really annoying problem on my car now for a few weeks and i need help, when im driving along and accelerating , every now and again ill loose power, the engine pops and farts and my air/fuel gauges bounces in to lean. ive had it actually loose throttle all together and cut out and its made me pull up in a lay by, and then eventually the revs come back if i pump the throttle, spoke to a few people and they could'nt shed any light, the plugs are new inverted type, all my leads are fine, i tried the 't' peice mod but that never worked, please say some one else has had this problem as its doin my head in now, 3k's worth of engine restin on a prob like this. the fuel regs new but not sayin its faulty.

Have you still got the pipe betwen 3 & 5 in the pic below fitted?
http://www.turbominis.co.uk/iain/up/hif_mods.jpg

The original shiny hoses are prone to getting cracks in them - hairline cracks - that are difficult to see. As a matter of course, I'd swap out the pipe for a piece of 1/4" hose for peace of mind.

Next - you have to invest in a lo-gauge and do the tests we all have to do from time to time. Do a search for ' lo-gauge ' and you'll find plenty of discussion on fitting and testing with them....

ok. i have all new 5mm silicone vacuum hose on carb bits so no its not a split, fuel filter is new and before reg, reg is new, cant really hear an air leak when im driving, surely that would make it happen all the time aswell

So you've fitted the fuel pressure gauge and monitored it whilst driving?

ok just been out in it, with no boost its 3.5 psi then when i boost it varies between 7 to 10psi, my problem occurered to and the pressure was around 7psi and i was at 5000 rpm in 3rd then it did it for a while after that every time i boosted, also i noticed when it did this that the fuel pressure would drop to zero for a while then eventually creep back up to 3.5 ish when i started accel' again. could this be a faulty reg or major heat soak, cant imagine gettin heat soak when im drivin though

Sounds like the pump is struggling to supply enough fuel. Could be the pre-pump filter (if you have one) or the gauze over the suction leg in the tank is blocked up. There has been extensive discussion about this on a thread by "Neilfenstein" I suggest you have a read through that to see if it the same as your problem?

like dave was pointing to and now you confirmed

take toms advice check suction to pump

if ok change the pump!

i have a sneaking feeling there maybe some debris under the seat on the pressure regulator

or the "diafram has a PIN HOLE in it "

just a thought!*wink*
