Im just about ready to rebuild my rear subby just wandered what you lot do to protect it? It's a brand new subframe was thinking maybe stone chip or hammerite or something down that line what would you suggest?

I had mine powdercoated, however there is a thought that this can be a bit brittle;

Cheers for the help just got a quote for powder coating 65 beans any colour bit steep but if it lasts it would pay for its self over the years

I think I paid about £80 to get both front and rear frames done - was a few years ago now mind you

I have used Hammerite Smooth Paint - brushed it on at first straight from the tin and the finish was fairly good, but I am thinning it down now and spraying the last few coats on to get an even coverage.

Cost effective with either hammerite or the por15 powder coating or galvanising would be the ultimate protection IMO but just can't justify the cost

I powder coated mine but what u have to do is get them powdered red as that adds 10bhp per sub ;P

Mines hamerited its about 3years on and its cracked and flaking (no miles )
Same with the underside of the car

galv isnt expensive because its done on weight. both subframes cost me £60 to get done and that was including getting them blasted to remove the etch primer. was about 6 years ago mind.

Does galv make a lot of extra weight, mines powder coated, it does chip but needs a good knock to do it, about the best thing I think.. Alan

If the powder coat chips then it will allow water to seep in a rot the rub frame out personal id get it E dipped and painted last much longer :) and if paint chips just re apint it all ive done with mine
