Test driven car today, and where getting no boost, Is there any other test we can do to check if turbo is spinning, no misfires on engine, seems to drive like a normal 1275, without a turbo, boost gauge
Showing no boost, dump valve not blowing off, could it be the actuator, thanks for your help..Alan

Take off the hose coming from the turbo to the plenum, rev the engine up and you should feel a good whoosh of air coming out of the pipe, hand dryer in toilets kind of amount. Can you move the actuator rod by hand, it should have spring loaded pressure, but you should be able to grab it and move it. Also have you fitted the actuator with pre load, you should have to pull the rod approx 3 to 4mm to get it to fit over the wastegate arm pin.

Is the inlet restricted to the turbo?

If the wastegate is stuck open you'll probably get very little boost.

Take the inlet off the turbo and see if you can rotate the shaft or feel any play.

You need to rev it fairly hard, but it should be blowing. Can you spin the impellor with your fingers through the inlet on the compressor housing? You should be able to spin it quite easily.

I've just rev it high realy high and you can just feel a small amount of air so I'm going to check how easy the impellor spins.
But its not def not pushing enough air out

Maybe the turbo is seized.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

OK I’ve striped the turbo off the engine and I can see nothing wrong, there’s no end float and It spins freely with slight restriction, took some pictures for you to look at.. Alan

Echoing everybody else, check the actuator, they should pull out with a bit of pressure, if its very easy to pull out it's no good, or the diaphragm in it may be split?

Did you blow air into it with your nouth?
If you did that sounds like a weak actuator to me, although i could be wrong, i have a t3 actuator and an avonbar actuator in the garage, I'll see what it does!

I just went out to look at mine, took a fair bit of pressure to pull out the standard actuator by hand. What's yours like? The only other thing i can think of is the hose bore to the actuator not being big enough maybe?

Couldn't move mine in the slightest blowing into the actuator.

Can you take a pic of how the actuator arm sit in comparison to the waste gate pin. Basically what the preload looks like?

As far as i'm aware, you should have to pull the actuator arm about with width of the pin to pull it onto it, about 4-6mm short of it dropping right on with the wastegate closed.

Can’t take a pic at this stage, because I’ve striped it down, but when I first put the turbo on the engine, I was told there was too much presser on it, so made it like my sons turbo mini, just pulling it closed with slight presser.. Alan

If you can move it with the pressure of blowing on it, I'm guesing the spring has weakened, and if you have barely any preload it's not going to do much anyway!
Try making the arm about 5mm short of sliding over the pin with the wastegate closed, and see how it goes from there.

If 5mm preload doesn't suss it, try asking one of the local lads to pop round and take a look at it, there's plenty turbo nuts about in Yorkshire!
