Good luck with that. Myself I think that I get excellent value from the BBC. Also isn't their a difference between the BBC and the licensing enforcer, making most of the arguments in that film a bit flimsy. I could be wrong there though.

ive been done in the past, fined a few hundred quid for admitting that i hadnt got a tv licence. they do read you your rights at the door after theyve taken all your details.
However i wish to make 'no comment' on any further dealings with the tv licencing.

Although it is called a TV license it does fund all BBC output. I would pay just for radio 2 and 6 records.

The licence fee is simply another indirect tax for public services.

Same as road tax, it isn't spent directly on the roads.

Personally I'm happy to pay, what is a very small amount, for high quality programmes without adverts. Watching the HD channels (BBC developed the DVB-T2 format) is worth every penny IMO.

Some people actually pay considerably more for low quality programmes and pay to watch adverts..... (eg. those who subscribe to Sky)

If I want to watch adverts, I may occassionally watch ITV etc, but that's only a secondary tax on things I buy in the shops if I choose brand names.

Agree with both sides of the argument ? My only issue with the licence fee is that should be allowed to make Your own choices, rather than be forced to pay for the BBc if you want to watch television.

I watched the 1st minute then turned off, what a tosser.

I'll happily pay what is a very small fee for decent TV without adverts. I might have 40+ channels available, but I watch 4 or 5 at most.

I don't understand peoples obsession with not paying for things and then still expecting stuff.

Oh dear...

I pay for sky so that I don't have to watch adverts.... I record pretty much everything and watch it at my convenience.

Adverts do frustrate me, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if they where on the BBC and I was £10ish a month better of...

There are one or two programs that I'd watch on the BBC. But my real problem with the BBC is with what is spends the license fee on. For example £200k spent on lawyers to prevent the license payers from finding out how overpaid their staff are. Too many staff sent out on coverage of events. Etc.

The BBC don't really care about responsibility for financial management, it's all spend spend spend. Recently they were forced to review their budget -- without that force they weren't even bothered about saving money.

In the larger picture taking the license fee grand total, the BBC is not value for money. Because they waste money.

Times are beginning to change as many people skip live broadcast reception and use video over internet to watch whatever they want on demand. This doesn't require a license. If you want to stick two fingers up at the BBC that's the way to go.

If you look at any big corporation you will always find places where they can save money. People seem to think that they own the BBC because they 'pay' for it. But in that way we own all companies that we pay for a service from, which we don't.

I guess for some people it seems a lot as they don't watch or listen to the BBC. But for all its failings it does churn out would class stuff. Where would we be without Top Gear, Dr Who, Red Dwarf, The Mighty Boosh, David Atenborough, Trumpton, etc, etc, etc.

I think what gets to people is that we are forced to pay a licence fee to a company. It's not like it's state run so really people are demanded to pay a private firm. that's what isn't right.

No Mike, you only need a TV licence to watch live broadcasts, so for instance, you couldn't watch a live stream online, but you can watch iPlayer stuff which has already been broadcasted without having a TV license.

I guess the money goes to the infrastructure too, which is not cheap.

I wonder how many people would not subscribe to any BBC output if it was optional?

I love sports but wouldn't and don't pay sky sports charge to view, and could happily not use bbc tv or radio stations no problem. But if the bbc was an add on package for sky/virgin etc, people would probably gladly pay per month for it, as it would then be a choice not something forced upon them.

There may half a dozen companies contracted by BBC to administer TV licensing -- the major one is Capita. In 2002 Capita got a £500M 8-year contract, renewed ending 2011 for another 8-year period for £560M. A nice chunk of cash each year then.

i watched this last night and was a bit baffled by it if im honest and it was very informative but it still didnt answer some questions about what the requirement is that you need to pay for a tv.

to my knowledge and this is a bit basic when you buy a tv your details are handed over and so there is a database of how many houses have tv's etc. so even if you unplug your tv from the ariel is that enough to stop them fining you?

i vary rarely watch bbc except for topgear and most of the time watch stuff on iplayer or 4od as its convienient for me to watch it when i want to.

but my merely unplugging the tv ariel is that enough that you dont watch tv; where does it stand if you have virgin and record stuff to watch?

interesting watch though
