There's a brown/yellow wire that runs from the alternator to the plug for the clocks. Use a multimeter to check continuity. On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:
i tried putting soap on it , and heating it to brown , then slathered my new lube on it

I'm fairly sure there is continuity and its not the wire to the plugs because my voltmeter shows the car isn't charging when the car is running.

Is the alternator plug on your loom clean? Especially the terminals. On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

So if the light is on, it must be the alternator? Can it possibly be anything else? |

what im getting at is that can a break in the circuit somewhere not also be a problem - I take it the ignition light would not come on at all if there was a line break |

The ignition light gets 12v from the dash when you turn the ignition on On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

The ignition light gets 12v from the dash when you turn the ignition on and is earthed at the alternator when its not charging, if the light comes on at all, there is no problem with the wires assuming they go to the correct place and the bulb obviously works the issue is the alt not charging voltmeter across the battery will confirm this On 4th Mar, 2012 carts60 said:
I should say the alternator has also been checked on another mini to make sure its actually charging and a good unit. youve said this alternator worked fine in another mini if it does im 100% stumped and can only suggest trying the other minis alternator in your mini and if that doenst work either im 200% stumped :) Edited by Brett on 4th Mar, 2012.
