I need to set up my ignition timing again as I don't think it is correct. I don't have any haynes manual so just sourcing information from the forum really.

Right when number 1 cylinder is at tdc (cylinder nearest water pump) the drive must be installed. How do I know where the rotor are needs to point to?

The firing order is 1432? Correct? Starting with top right going anti clockwise on distributor cap.

Can some body confirm all or any off this?

Cheers Rick

The firing order is 1342 going anti clock wise.

At TDC the distributor drive should be positioned so the larger segment of the dog drive is at the bottom and the slot should be pointing at 1 O clock. When you fit the distributor arm it should also be at 1 O clock, and this is where the lead for cylinder no 1 would be.

Make sure the engine is at TDC on the compression stroke and not the exhaust stroke though.

Oh and cylinder number 1 is at the waterpump end.

Yeah its exactly the same, it just has a solid state relay (ignition module) instead of points.

Have you got 12V and negative wires connected to the ignition module on the side of the dizzy?

But what about the dizzy?

You should have two wires that go from the coil to the square black connection on the dizzy?

If you've got it wired corecctly and you have no spark and the point dizzy works, then it could well be a faulty ignition module.

Like this.

If its popping then you could have it timed 180 degrees out, so its sparking when the exhaust valve is open.

That's was exactly it and its running really well now and I can actually move it wooooooooooop

The only thing now is it starts to boost and then the power cuts for some reason

Any ideas?

It could be the ignition module again as they can play up under load, check your fuel pressure first though.

Oh right I see. I will check all my fuel again. Should the pipe going from the plenum to the regulator be 8mm? Would that make a difference? I am using 6mm at present. I changed the pipe from turbo cold side to actuator for a solid piece and got rid of the bleed valve for now.

Just abit confusing but it is an option that it could be ignition module but it was in working condition when removed

My boost gauge is reading in minus vacuum pressure on idle is this correct?

Cheers Rick

Yeah reading vaccum is fine for where you have the signal hose fitted.

The hose size shouldn't make any difference to be honest.

As for the ignition, it could of failed since being taken off.

Thank you again I will do some more investigation this weekend.

Is there a way I can be sure it is the ignition module without changing it for a new

Many thanks

Im not sure how to test it tbh for an intermittant fault, the only way ive done it in the past is to swap it out and see if it makes a difference.

I replaced the coil ht leads and plugs and also done the t piece mod to pressureize the float. Chamber.

My only question is can this be left in as a permanent mod?

Cheers Rick

Yes, if you need to. Mines had the T-piece fitted for years.
