I have recently purchased a set of the Minispares alloy 4 pot calipers for 7.5" non vented discs. One thing I didn't consider was whether they require cooper s discs and drive flanges or whether I can turn down my existing 8.4" discs on a lathe and simply use them.

I thought I would ask here as many of you use them.

Thanks

James

i think its fine to use turned down disks, i think paul wiginton and nick use turned down disks. I can't say for sure though, have a search and it may turn up the answer.

I use those very calipers. I used the std 8.4" hubs but fitted the supplied drilled discs. They are s discs I used - wether the turned down 8.4 would work on 7.5's i dont think so. Someone might correct me but I thought it was just the 7.9's that used turned down 8.4's?

Excellent, I shall find a lathe.

Nice chunk of weight to be lost from an 8.4 inch brake disc too.

The calipers are bloody light compared to a standard mini one, about 1.5kg lighter.

turn them in the lathe as slow as possible, sub 80 rpm

You'll need spacers to run S disks. Turned down 8.4s are what you need.

This is what wintersurfer is using (S disks with an 8mm spacer).

In the 13's at last!.. Just

What is the reasoning for using such a slow rpm out of interest joe?

Why spacers? I run these without spacers, and have not had any issues, unless I don't have s discs... But they are the non vented 7.5". I'm now confused...

I have mini spares callipers with 7.5 solid disk and have spaces fitted, don't need spaces with vented discs I presume..

the spacers are to mount the caliper out from the mounting flange there just big washers really S disks sit futher out than 8.4's, there is also a spacer for running vented disks that goes between the two halves of the caliper dont be confused by this
