I'm in need of a bit more cutting power that the Dremel can give me. I've been re working the turbo manifold and cleaning up the welds, but all i have really been doing is making lots of dust as the stones disintigrate in a matter of minutes (Cheap Aldi)

I have my eye on a Makita 240v 400w grinder, not exactly massive, but I think for the price will satisfy my needs.

The real question is, how good are the carbide burrs at working stainless compared to the stones? I've always used stones, but everyone is talking about these carbid burrs. I don't mind using the stones but I don't want to invest in burrs only to find them no good for my application.

Your thoughts please :)

carbide ones are good, ive cooked them right up on stainless and they stop cutting... but once theyve cooled they are ok again. last forever too.

Carbide burrs are amazing on stainless. Stones are mere toys by comparison.

I need to get some burrs¡ i normally use the sandpaper wheels to clean up stuff, brilliant on ally but shit on steel, though always handy if you need to remove a small patch of paint/rust

Ive used them on all my manifolds, and they work a treat. I got mine from gloster tooling on ebay and they last a long time.

The needles they leave behind are a pain in the arse though! *angry*

that does sound good value,

I use one like this in a cheap router bit unwieldy but does the trick.

I use HSS burrs in an air powered die grinder and have no complaints at all.

Carbide burrs all the time in an air driven die grinder.

Ironically the air driven ones run slightly slower than some of the electrics but the air version is so much easier to use - much smaller package (I have both air and electric).

No problem whatsoever with stainless, the only thing to watch out for is aluminium - use a really, really coarse burr or it will clog up on ali.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

The fettlers use them at work for dressing welds in tight spaces, they last a few days of pretty much constant use, like 20hours a day (day and night shift), would reccomend.

Mate seriously, lol, don't talk to me about health and safety, it's bad enough I get it at work haha. By all means speak to others, but I can assure you that where H&S is concerned, i've got more gloves, glasses, goggles, earplugs, dust masks and much much more than I'll ever need, ever *happy*

No harm reinforcing it when using a new tool.

The rate a carbide burr removes metal with a die grinder is impressive. But they are small sharp shards of metal and can do damage. Again I'd say a full face shield is best.

try this colin ,

http://www.toolstop.co.uk/bosch-ggs27-die-grinder-p207

i thi k they are discontinued , so you may get one a bit cheaper .,it seems much more powerfull than its rating ,but using a long carbide can be a bit hazardous.this is the one i used in the pocketing the 1098 block vid on the channel.

Carbide burrs are awesome for removing metal and leave a good finish. They work even better if you keep some lube, WD40 or something on them, just spray in regularly, stops ally clogging up and they remove metal even quicker and dont overheat.

Stones are for finishing. Carbide burrs for removing metal.

Stones are not anywhere close to a burr for removing metal.
