This has been in the pipework for a few months now, finally made a start yesterday on it though.

Planned spec:
Standard 998 block, pistons, crank gearbox etc
T2 turbo on mirage manifolds
X Pin Diff
2.9/3.1 FD (Undecided yet)
Megajolt Ignition
Maniflow 2" Exhaust

Just looking for a bit more Torque out of it, not really bothered about top end horsepower, as it isnt going to be used for track days/sprints, just wanted to liven up my daily drive :)

So i made an attempt to get the Megajolt installed yesterday, but only achieved getting the trigger wheel on as the sensor bracket I have is obviously designed for one with a damper, so need to make some modifications to that before i can go any further.

So for now here are some pictures of where I am at the moment, mainly part collecting:

Impressed with the ebay trigger wheel, made to my specifications, £16 with postage *happy*

Fuel pressure reg i got for a tenner off ebay

Option Switch for the MJ *happy*

I'll hopefully remember to update this as i go.

Don't forget to mod the t2 actuator position - it won't fit in the bay otherwise

Thanks for reminding me, I'd forgotten about that, what's the best way to go about it?

Took a hacksaw to the bracket today, so now it's the right size, and also managed to get the loom in, so hopefully when I have some free time on weds i'll be able to pull the rad out and get that fitted, and then (fingers crossed) I'll be running electronic ignition *happy*

This is what the bracket now looks like, i've just lowered the two cylinders to compensate for the lack of a damper, and dropped the base down at the two holes so i dont have to buy longer bolts :)

There are some nasty looking chips in some of those trigger wheel teeth, so I hope you're not using Megasquirt.

Megajolt should be alright with it though as the VR conditioning circuit is far less 'dainty' than the one that is used on MS by default. At least, MJLJ worked with my old trigger wheel, but does not work with MS as it's apparently too noisey!

Thanks for that, only just spotted them, I dont remember seeing them on the actual item, so i'll have a look tomorrow, check it's not damaged.

But i am just using megajolt, so hopefully it'll be okay.

You are right Carl, standard Megasquirt VR circuit is crap.

For people using MegaJolt it shouldn't be an issue as Ford got round it in their EDIS module.

With MegaSquirt - for those of you using it on a carb just for ignition and/or data logging - beware of the VR crank input.

For those using MS for injection as well, same applies.

Forget the standard MegaSquirt VR input and use either Jean's or build your own from the Extra manual.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

So, a fairly successful day working on the car, started with finishing the sensor mounting which took about 3 attempts to get it spot on. I had a look at the trigger wheel again, and there are no marks or chips on it, it must just be the picture..

So now it is running on the MJ *happy*

a couple of problems along the way (one in particular you may be aware of *tongue*) but its all together and running.

Managed to do a few other bits and pieces like redo the wiring for the rear speakers, nothing else worth noting though.

Got back home today though and realised I'd been a massive pillock and soldered the positive for the MJ to a permanent positive, as a pose to one thats positive when the ignition, took me a while to work out why it was running on aha...

Oh, and the rev counter isnt working, is that normal as i've removed the dizzy? or has something else happened?

Its been dark by the time i've got around to taking any photos of the whole car, but i'll try and get some on friday after it's had a wash *tongue*

Had a Rolling road day at the weekend at Smart Performance, was a good day and the guy running it was really helpful.

Got some emission checks done and the fueling is pretty much bang on with the needle reccomended to me by someone from minispares, and also got the MJ tweaked, so it is running sweet as a nut now.

Realised I havn't actually put any pictures of the car up yet, so here are a couple from the day:

and a video of the power run, sorry about the poor audio quality, phone mic is pants..

http://s1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa424/...nt=IMG_0039.mp4

Pretty pleased with the results though, 34bhp at the wheels, 48 at the fly, if i remember correctly about 60ftlbs of torque as well.

Little bit of an update, bought some of the remaining bits and pieces over the easter break:
Green cotton filter, £20 off ebay

Dump valve fitting kit, only a few quid

Plenum Chamber

HIF44 Turbo Carb

Also have a cosworth intercooler.

Not far off from starting the assembly, Just need:
Mirage manifold and exhaust system
x pin diff
oil feed
Intercooler piping
Lots of money...

Then i can start putting it all together and ironing out the inevitable problems.

Brought the new engine home today, looks pretty tidy, so should be a good base to start with.

Just need an exhaust manifold and i can start mocking up actuator brackets, intercooler piping etc...

Not much of an update, the project has taken a bit of a back seat with the insurance due in a month, after that it should pick up a bit as i'll have finished uni for summer by then.

Got some intercooler pipework through the post today, it arrived covered in dirt and grease, but after a quick clean up it looks as good as new.

I still need a few 90 degree bends, a 45 degree bend and a reducer to get it down to the size of the plenum.

A trip to minispares during the week as well to get a rebuild kit for the carb, and some other bits and bobs.

Cool looks like you are collecting parts well glad the engine turned out to be what you expected. The turbo carb you have looks the same as my one i have had a bit of trouble finding one with the throttle cable on that side. I ended up buying a turbo one for that side but it didn't have mounting for choke sodecided to make my own. if you have trouble finding one i might be able to do something. Have a look at my thread (link at bottom of post)

I did see your thread on that the other day, i'm hoping i can borrow the uni's fabrication lab for an hour or so, as they have sheet metal stuff there, so hopefully will be able to make my own.

It's just a case of whether they'll let me *tongue*

also brings back memories of picking up new engines - whip the passenger seat out and then spend most of the journey trying to stop it all couping over!

Tell me about it, got about a quarter of the way home just holding it around the corners before i thought of using the seatbelt to strap it in...

Doesn't feel quite the same to drive with two engines in though, especially with one not doing anything *tongue*

Not much to update, still need money to get the majority of the stuff i need, and my insurance renewal is coming up... at least it's £800 less than last year. A year no claims is definitely handy..

Anyway, just got the fuel pump and the pressure regulator mounted and in, just waiting for some fuel hose to come in so i can plumb it all in.

Well. Your nearly there with the parts, the fuel pumps wrong though!

You need the the same pump off the metro turbo

So will this Pump not provide enough fuel? Even as I only intend to run a max of 10psi? (until I get more money, and probably a new car..)

Its to do with how the regulator works not the pressure from the pump.

Ahh I see, so what is it about this pump that won't agree with the regulator? The reg just uses the pressure off the plenum to change the amount of fuel going to the carb doenst it? I thought that as long as the pump can send enough fuel to the reg it would be okay? Or is this pump pulsed or something?

It's going there until I can get a rear subframe that's not corroded, then I'll probably mount it there. This was just so i could measure up for fuel lines.

It might well work, the risk is that on boost your float bowl will empty and your engine will go lean and stop.

I bet you could sell that for the same price a propper pump will cost.
