i bought one of these head units off eBay yesterday and it arrived this morning. ive fitted it and i cant complain about anything to do with it.
it weighs less than half of a standard cd player as it is only an mp3 player with usb, sd card and aux in.
there is no cd player which makes it ideal for the minis stiff suspension, no more skipping and jumping. it does have pre outs for amp connection. comes with a remote as well.
so for any of you weight concious music lovers you cant go wrong with this.

also the unit is around 4inch in depth as well, so a bit more clearance around the back.

that's good to know as mine would be quite close to my fusebox.

I've found a JVC one that looks good, with bluetooth for the car kit *smiley*

Looks a good solution, i bought a mini 12v amp the other week similar to eBay item 260972613857, just Going to run left and right hand speakers through each Channel and plug me i pod into it, only 7 quid as well. Going to hide it behind a period radio front 3 quid from an autojumble.

I bought one of these a few months ago to run the parcel shelf speakers, works really well, much better than i was expecting for a tenner.

how have you wired it up? with it having an on/off switch on and the power adapter?

I just took the plug of the power wire, earthed the -ve and connected the +ve to the stereo's, so it comes on with the ignition, and if you leave the switch it'll work off the ignition.

Or if you're a bit more adventurous you could just take the wire inside the case straight to the power rails on the board, effectively removing the on/off switch.
