Hello Folks,

I'm thinking of putting together an Air flow meter with a digital readout, essentially a MAF sensor from a car interfacing to a PIC (CPU) that translates the output to a flow figure that is displayed on an LCD or 7 segment display.... What I'm thinking is if you know what bioost your running... and what the air flow is you can then see where you are on a compressor map....

If I did this would anyone else be interested in one?

hmm interesting.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Turbo speed sensor would be better and obviously a lot more accurate.

Actually trying to calibrate a MAF would be a nightmare.

Joe,

Have you persued this one ???

I'm just finalising my intake piping so would be interested to know what MAFs you've considered (rather than me duplicating whatever searches you have already done).

In my own case, I'd put the MAF in through Jean's IOx (PIC is something I've never got into and I've just been told there is yet another delay on my pre-ordered Raspberry Pi so I'm not going back to basics when the MS2 and IOx can deal with the inputs...) but if you've been looking at breakers yard MAFs, which have you chosen ???

I need a 57mm one and preferably a hot wire type, not a flap meter.

Rod.

only a little... jut when I think work is settling down every thig goes tits up again....

anyway, the lan is to use a Bosch one as there are datasheets for them hence no calibrating..., Ive seen a couple on ebay for not too much,

Ive looked at doing a turbo speed sensor and its no easy task,

Looks interesting Joe.

Be nice to know what cars have them as standard (or any proper hot wire type).

Turbo speed sensor (referring back to Stevie) has come up on Jean's forum a couple of times.

It's obviously not easy but maybe worth a read here

And also bare in mind, you cannot place a MAF directly in front of a turbo. It needs to be some distance away, or have air calming measures introduced. Airflow generated by the spinning compressor fucks the MAF up completely if it's mounted close or with no bends.
