anyone used these guys?

http://www.adamsgas.co.uk/index.php?option...emart&Itemid=54

we don't do too much welding these days (our boc bottle lasts over 12 months between refills) and the yearly rental is about £65.

I've seen these guys advertised in the classic mags. The refill charges are not far off the same and there is only a 1 off bottle deposit so looks far better for me at the moment.

There lots of places that are doing it on the "Buy the bottle" basis, even BOC now I belive.

How small is a small bottle though ?

I pay rental on two bottles, both the 4ft or so tall and 10-12" diameter.

Whilst I dont use a lot of gas, I just found the smaller ones didnt last any length of time at all

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

With the tig I get about 6 hours out these bottles I've used 3 this year at 56.00 quid each time. I don't think these 3 would not be equivalent to 1 of the big bottles.

appreciated; my issue is that we do very little welding at the moment - its generally welding the odd bracket or something similar - nothing too major. Even on the basis I would be getting re-fills more regularly, I' still be cheeper until I start another big resto. I've used the gas so little in the last few years i even considered using the diposable bottles!

For the general purpose mig welding, CO2 goes a long way, since it is a liquid in the cylinder, you get more of it. That's the problem with the Agron mixes, they are simply a compressed gas, and don't last anywhere near as long. So for some one not using the mig that often, CO2 disposables work just fine, and the rental cylinders seem to go on for ever. The argon mix disposables are an utter waste of money and the rental cylinders become a more attractive proposition. Having said that, I don't weld so much stainless or aluminium to ever justify the rental cylinders.

It depends how much you want to weld in any period of time. To have a rental cylinder sat around just incase you might be welding for Britain, is not cost effective. Also, knowing BOC well, their cylinder valves often leak, so there might be nothing in the cylinder 9months down the road.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
