as the title says i think i have been conned with a kid from ebay selling me a phase 2 cam, the think is i just need a back up to the already thoughts i have of the cam that has arrived, there are no stamp markings on the cam anywhere and the only id marking i can find is a 3mm band inbetween valves 5 and 6 which leads me to think its an a+ 998 cam. i have been in contact with the seller which hes ensuring me that its a phase 2 which he was using in his 1380 n/a motor.

any information to beck my thoughts would be great

phase 2 what?
there's more than one phase 2 in the world,
measure the lobe lift, then you will know what it is....

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

What is a metro turbo phase 2. he could well have meant a series 2 Metro turbo. these used the standard 1275 cam. Is it one of those?

It's not an avonbar ph2, but it was not described as such.

If it is a kent cam (suggested by the box) it wil have an MD number on the pump end. Kent do not make a phase 2 anything though.

That reads strange. It suggests its a 'mk2 metro turbo cam' the way i read it.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

This is the OE A+998 Cam (9.6:1/10.3:1 CR), It is also used in economy versions of the metro 1275, such as HLE and LE models, identified by the 1/8" raised ring between lobes 5 & 6.

Checking height: 0.017" @ lobe

Timing: (Intake): 9/41 (Exhaust): 49/11

Nominal lobe lift: (Intake): 0.263" (Exhaust): 0.249"

Duration (Intake): 230 (Exhaust): 240

Lobe centre angle (Intake): 106 (Exhaust): 109

Lobe separation angle: 107.5

Lift on overlap: 0.031"

hope this helps you resolve things

Plenty of cams are regrinds so the stick could easilly be a 998 one, but with a 'phase 2' regrind on it.

Regrinds are easy to spot as the lobe base circle diameter is noticibly smaller.

With a digital caliper mesure the narrowest part of the lobe (base circle diameter) and subtract that from the widest part of the lobe. This will give lobe lift. Compare the base circle diameter with a standard cam to see if its much smaller and the lobe lift larger than standard indicating that it is a regrind and not just the 998 cam you think it is. Simples

Its hard to be 100% certain but it looks like a groove between lobes 5&6 if its is then it started life as a Metro Turbo came shaft.
