I had the rolling road with SRE today, a good day and sOme nice results.

16psi showing 155bhp, but it wouldn't go over 18psi and at that pressure it was unstable. It got around 163bhp at that but we didn't feel it was good to leave it like it.

There is a bit of oil in the hose before the intercooler but it's not smoking like its burning oil. Could the turbo need a rebuild?

Or it could be your intercooler that isn't capeable of enough flow.

Wil & Ben had this with the hillclimber with some cheap chinky intercooler I think.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Don't think so but not impossible I suppose;

The intercooler is off of an audi TT, although it is one of two that the 225bhp had...

Or it could be your bleed valve setup. Have you got a restrictor in the line?

We had to put a .6mm welding tip in the line prior to the bleed valve to get above 17psi.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Sorry a .8mm to get about 17psi a .6mm to get about 22/23psi.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I had to put a restrictor in the line between the compressor housing and actuator to get more boost.

I have a Turbosmart 2 stage boost controller - It has a gate valve in the line; I tried with and without the ballbearing.

Matty - I take my boost feed after the intercooler to the boost controller - As the manufacturer said to. Maybe I have plumbed it in wrong then...

I'll double check

I've just had a thought....

I wonder if I have enough preload on the actuator? i know that there isnt a huge amount of preload - could that be it??

looking at the curve i would say it is not a flow problem

If it was youd have a flat line power curve

As for the oil, this is normal, do you have a restrictor on the oil feed to the turbo the GT's dont like more than 4 bar of oil pressure. Anymore and you sneak past the oil seals

Turbo'ing the rover k series since 2010 *wink*

Even with that boost controller you'll need a restrictor in the feed.

You shouldn't need a restrictor in the oil feed al. mini engine don't tend to get above 4bar oil pressure.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

As above a welding tip or use smaller I'd hose if you can, I personally wouldn't go and buy some tips just for that, I used a jubilee tightened it up to reduce the Id of the hose

Yes as john says leave the Turbo oil feed alone, get the restrictor off of Andy.

Thanks for all your help - again!!

I think I might have Some tips, I'll check later.

After driving it at 14psi I think I'll leave it for a bit until I get used to it - it's rapid to say the least.

I have a rolling road shoot out at SRE in July - so I'll get it fitted for then and try it out!

Neil has given me 2 needles - one for up to 16psi and another for 18+psi to get the fuelling right. Anyone else found they need this?
