will the standard hinges be up to it?

I'm sure one of the fibreglass companies advertised hinges for this in the past

I was thing about using a set of audit boot hinges to do it. I believe minitec in the US do a kit.

If you open a standard bonnet, you will see that when the standard hinges reach their limit, the centre of the bonnet at the back is already very close to the windscreen, and it's only up by 45 degrees.

Even if you could extend the big curved loop in the hinges to open further, the bonnet/front would hit the windscreen long before it was up at a suitable angle to give you access.

The Minitech design (same principle as Audi and other boot/bonnet hinges) moves the bonnet/boot/front forwards/outwards as well as swinging it upwards.

However, they are expensive, so I made my own.

It's basically a copy of the Audi boot hinge (Andy sent me photos at the time) but reversed (ie, as if the boot lid was fixed and the Audi was being lifted) as it gave a better upward/forward ratio if reversed, and made from 20x5 mild steel bar and M8 bolts.

I was going to use the Audi ones (reversed) but as it would still have needed the mounting plates and frame fabricating, and the Audi bits cut/welded/bolted to suit, I just did the lot in one go.
