Can someone tell me what the purpose of the throwout nut (22A427) and locknut is on the end of the clutch plunger on a verto setup? The locknut on mine has come off and the flanged nut was on it's last turn of thread, but everything works fine...

Yes, that's what I did. Except I clearly didn't tighten them up enough!

Its a type of limiter to stop the clutch from to much travel, the way to set it up is to put your clutch peddle to the floor keep your foot pressed down then take up the slack with the big nut let your foot off the peddle turn the large nut one flat in, then do up the lock nut to keep that setting, Its best to get some one to press the peddle down whilst you do the adjustment..

As above, it limits the travel, and hence stops any excessive end load on the crank and thrusts.

I'd get one back on sharpish as you may be putting extra load on your thrust bearings.

leeds/wakefield.

it is a safeguard there to stop you pumping/jacking the clutch out to far too far, if your return spring is fitted and everythnig is free it should never overthrow once setup correctly,

i don't have them on the Don or twinnie
