Hey guys!

I've been waiting for my dad to time my cam in for the past week now and everyday he comes up with some reason why he cant do it that day and makes me feel unresonable for asking him

soooo

I was hoping someone from here could recommend a person/place that I could take it to, to have the cam timed in, its a kent 266 and needs to be at 106deg but I havent got a clue how to do it and I would like it to be done properly please :)

=[

If you have a DTI then you can do it yourself. No better way to learn than having a go. As Andy says there is a guide on here, there is also a timing protractor you can print out and stick to a card backing to use.

I have the timing protractor and have read your guide Tom but I dont have a DTI - There about £20 on ebay, is it easy enough to do then?

I take it you measure tdc and bdc using the DTI and then set it to in the middle and then put the cam in at 106degree?

edit: is it a metric or imperial DTI that I need? I may aswell measure the difference between the top of the block and the top of the piston (cant rememebr what its called) so i can work out my exact CR

If you don't have a DTI then neither you or your Dad can do the cam timing. Doesn't matter metric or imperial, all you are looking for is to find true TDC of the piston by seeing when it stops travelling upwards, note the start and end point of the dwell, set your protractor, then find full lift of your cam, and read off your protractor what angle of the crank does the cam reach full lift.

PS
I've not looked on ebay but as well as the DTI itself you'll also need a magnetic stand.

I have a DTI, and I'll drop it round too if you like?

Gives me an excuse to bring the mini out!

Chronos have a good reputation in the world of model engineering (ie, outside of eBay).
I use a fair amount of their stuff.
Yes, it's "chinese" as some would say, but fine for hobby use.
