tried the search with no luck. going for the gt17 turbo route with a possible vw group intercooler of some type.
anyone have a rough idea of the psi that the intercooler pipes will be carrying? managed to find there is loads of 50mm alloy pipe getting scrapped off each aircraft we're stripping at work. wondered if i might get away with using the couplings too dependant on pressure. anyone help???

The pressure in the pipes will be the same as (or maybe slightly more due to losses) than your boost pressure.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

they will be carrying whatever boost you run...

I think you'll be fine with the aircraft stuff.

sweet. the pipe will be fine, it was the special sealed couplings that join them i was wondering as they have seals. think they will be fine too then as long as its only the same as boost pressure. wasnt sure as i have never dabbled in turbo fitment, only blower.

i wouldnt sell it tbh. suppose selling aircraft parts is in the arms dealing category. giving it away on the other hand isnt! sure once i have my requirements i could spare some. it will come in an 20 day cycle.

the pipe is lightweight alloy. comes in various straight and bends. will get roughly what i need, then keep collecting it as it only gets thrown in the skips. only problem is its in aircraft primer yellow colour!

Carefull there chap. There is an intrinsic value in the materials removed as scrap metal. Anyone contracted to do such decommissioning works will usually take into consideration this in pricing for the contract.

If however on the otherhand, you have asked and no one has a problem with it and you can prove so, free for all *happy*

For example. The job I'm at this week, the building was refurbished. The old air conditioning chiller in the basement was to be replaced, but the plantroom was full of asbestos materials. The company that were given the task of decommissioning the chiller took into consideration all the copper, brass and aluminium that the chiller was made from when pricing the job, and was agreed on. The chiller was sealed in plastic and smoke tested to prove that it would not be contaminated during asbestos removal. For the next 2 weeks, no one other than the asbestos removal contractors were allowed into the area, other than for a small window into the area for the HSE inspectors. The job ran on for a week over plan and when the sheeting was finally pulled down, the chiller had gone, nothing left but the bed it sat on. Longer story short, the asbestos contractors also saw the intrinsic value of the materials in the chiller and decided to have it for themselves, suggesting that it was contaminated, had been removed and was in the skips for disposal, even though it had been sheeted and smoke tested and certificated to say that it was not. The police were called. lol.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

cool. looks like you have acess to some usefull materials. I used to work nextdoor to a company that refurbed printing machines and they used to leave out scrap machines. These were full of stainless fittings, alloy and stainless sheet i never really knew how much it cost untill i needed to buy some a few years later. wish i has saved more

I'm always diving in the scrap metal bins on jobs. I once found a complete surface grinder with a mag table. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it, they just never used it. It was a fairly high profile site with tight security. I asked if I could have the mag table for £20 in the charity box, but they said that as it was now in the skip, it was too dangerous to climb in and retrieve it, they also went on to suggest that If I were to have an accident using it, I might be inclined to sue them?! W.T.F!!!

Or just the fact that employers don't want to be sued by someone who knows very well what they are doing, injures themselves and fancies a quick no win no fee claim attempt. Complete piss take, people should be held accountable for their own actions, not somebody else.
