If I cannot get hold of a MK1/MK2 dizzy what options do I have? Can I use a non-turbo variant or can anybody recommend an aftermarket alternative? |

I ran a welded-up dizzy, set at 25 degrees for years. It's not an ideal set-up bu it works.

Or get any 1275 electonic dizzy, and post it up to RaceSpec (01925 636 959) and get him to modify it to 'turbo' specification... On 17th Nov, 2014 Tom Fenton said:

Turbo dizzys seem to come up second hand quite regularly, keep an eye on ebay. I would guess you won't struggle too much to find one.

daft question: What's the difference between the two? It's not just a different curve is it? |

The electric distributor only uses electrics to trigger the coil. The advance curve is still controlled as a conventional dizzy with bob weights, primary and secondary springs, and the vacuum advance unit.

I have used 42635 dizzy's (ie the latest from cooper, british open, etc )with success, just play on the idle timing until you meet knock and then retard 2/4°, I generally found that 5/6° initial timing , is ok,depend on the boost and cr. |
