yeah, i nearly got one off ebay the other night but got home 5 mins after it ended for £15 *frown* been looking at the 1549 off the rover 25/45. already orientated to fit as standard, i did have a 1544 of a astra/vectra but sold it on a while back to help pay for something else.

one day boost will be mine!

Cool. i haven't seen the 1549 in the flesh but looks ok from the graph not as common as the 1544 as they seem to be on everything lol.

Not much small update i wasn't happy with the height for the oil drain so i have moved the turbo up a tiny amount. Then i have cut down a bend to finish off the cylinder 4 exhaust. Wish i could have curved it more maybe if i had got the pipes closer to the inlet it might have been better but oh well next time lol.

Looking good! I like the manifold good job :). Is the turbo going to fit without a bulkhead box? I'll be very interested to see how this goes as I'm planning to use a Gt15 on my 998 (I have a gt1549, but it is the same external size as the 44 pretty much).

cheers guys.
minivan63 fingers crossed it will fit without bulkhead mods well that was the plan. i have taken measurments from my car but when its all tacked together i might try it on. just means i needs to pull my car apart so will wait untill last min.

I agree, lovely work. Be interesting to see how the 44 goes, looks good on paper for a fast boosting drive.

cheers wil from what i can see it should boost early and seems quite efficient. I thought there were a couple using them but definatly one was a red mini with the turbo in the boot. I know it wont be together mega soon but will post results up as soon as i get some. Im not going to run high boost figures but just want it so be fun. I still need to collect alot of parts.

Hi not the biggest update as im trying to get all the bits together to mock up a front end and engine to see if it clears. Also were away on holiday at riviera run for the week some nice quality cars there and saw a few turboforum cars.
I got my stuff back from the platers and work had another batch so got a few more bits in yellow passivate this time.
I bought a spi tank and pump but turned out it wasn't the best inside and the pump was jamed solid. i have cleaned the tank out and took the pump apart blasted the tubes and just waiting for a pump now.

Cheers mate.
I got some more time to play today and found enough parts to try it. Hmm not exactly what i was hoping for but hope it will work with a few adjustments.

I also fitted it to an a+ block to check clearance to the webbing i got just over 10mm i can go closser to the block. I think i will move the engine forward a little in the subframe just like the later minis every little will help.

cool how's your project going. I nearly bought a 1549 off a rover a couple of weeks ago but as i nearly got it off i noticed it was cracked on the exhaust flange doh was not happy. I ended up getting given a ihi rbh4 turbo which looks great size and better packaged for fitting. Kind of wish i had come across that turbo first or built my manifold more like the mirage ones but it still bugs me about the exhaust flow point straight at each other. But hey where's the fun in copying i would have it made by now lol.

Nice work on the mani, can you take a measurement from the cross member to the tappet chest? I've made mine with the turbo right against the block, the GT17 looks a bit bigger than the 44 though.

well its been ages since i got anything done. I went to riviera run was good to see a couple of minis from this forum there and rubicon broke his mini again lol. and was at brandshatch for the mini festival which gave me a bit of a kick up the arse to get something done. so got everything back to work and altered the turbo position as much as i can so should clear ok now. Well today i got all the welding done on the manifold and started cleaning up the inside.

so now its lower manifold to make but i need to order some stainless plate for the flange. also need to work out what actuator to use and see where i can locate it.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.
