Hi all. Havnt been on in a while but still thinking of ways to get the minature back on the road on a low budget after what happened. And might be getting offered a rotten vts for cheap. Was thinking it may be a good lump sizewise for the mini, and the gearratios may be a little more suitable for a mini than some other modern engines.

saxo vts? check the engine over before fitting it, a lad i worked with spent a good amount on a 45kmile one, packed up before 50k - apparently this is common especially if its been driven like a twat Yes i moved to the darkside |

Hey Rick. My brother just turbocharged his S2 106 rallye. It had the 16V lump in and it produced 200bhp on the rooling road set up with just 6 or 7 psi via a GT17. Felt very quick as a passenger. Seemed reliable and cost him very little to actually do. It is featured in last months performance french car magazine if you want to see more. |

my 106 gti (same engine as a vts), engine has 130k miles on it now and i rev it like a twat, saying that it started to smoke about 2k miles ago, just some times after a bit of a thrash.

These comment are useful and the turbo sounds good, might pop to a store and glance at that article. Are the actuall lumps fairly small and light compared to the vtecs and vauxhalls? Dont know a great deal about them to be honest. Edited by Rick.SPI on 17th Apr, 2012. On 17th Feb, 2011 apbellamy said:

iv fitted one under a standard round nose with a bulge for the timing belt on a modified metro frame. they are good reliable engines imho. have also looked after a few turbocharged ones and the stock bottom end is stout. iron block so heavier than a rover k-series, probably on a par with a honda B18 and obviously lighter than a big block vauxhall. weak link is the MA gearbox. not so much of an issue in a light car like a mini, but they are pretty shit. however LOTS of gear ratios avaliable and you wont pay more than £50 for another gearbox. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)
