I have a tin roof on my lockup, I have been there for 2/3 years and have been. Chasing little holes for the whole of my time there. I have now put insulation in the roof and I plan on putting plywood up to seal it in but I have to stop these leaks from comming back.
Has anyone painted a tin roof with bitumen? Does this sound like a good idea or would it maybe flex too much and crack the bitumen anyway?
Unfortunately replacing the roof is not an option as its only rented but I do plan on being there for a while.

Any ideas would be great.

Can you not give the landlord a nudge about getting the roof properly repaired?

More than once I have "repaired" corrugated iron sheets by putting masking tape over the holes followed by two coats of Bitumastic paint and they lasted for many years.
Not sure I would use them on anything other than a woodshed though.

Tom I don't pay a great deal for the size of unit it is and was in a bit of a state when I moved in and it was up to us to fix it up. I have been chasing leaks for a while now though would like to do it in a better way.

Tadge I think that sounds like a better idea as the silicone I have been using doesnt seem too good.

Rob I have seen them and wonderd if they work, If I Defianatly stay there for a good few years it would be worth while for me. But too much at the moment.

Thanks for Ideas I will go buy some bitumen and gaffer tape *smiley*

Fibreglass matting and resin always works for me (just like repairing car bodywork).
