You need to be a member of one of the invited clubs (or have ana A licence).

I think the closing date has passed though.

Scruffy. It's essentially a standard 78 clubman with adjustable suspension kit, alloy 4 pots and a 150hp 1275cc turbo lump.

I'd be interested too, If there is a 'casual' road car class. I don't think either of us would be fussed about being competitive (ie - if we end up in up to 2000cc class).

In the 13's at last!.. Just

As has been said in another thread, there is no way to run a 1275 cc turbo mini in any class. Well you can run in sports libra. Next year you will be able to enter Mod prod upto 2000cc, but then you'll need to comply with all the Modprod stuff.

They should make a class called Road Libre or something like. Anything goes aslong as its road legal, taxed and MOTed and insured for road use.

I currently have a car that is all of those things but cant compete in the Road class because of my cylinder head not being an original casting or because it has no back seats.

So instead of competing against other road cars, ill be competing in mod prod class againsts cars running slicks etc etc.

Not that im bothered by this i was just saying. It seems fundementally wrong to me

If you want to enter an event speed events are very inclusive, but as with every other motorsport if you want to compete you have to look at the rules first.

This is not really an MSA issue it is a club issue. If you could get a group of like minded people together and gurantee numbers, lots of clubs would be willing to set up a class for you. Just look at the HSA with the MX5s and the flatheads. Also midland championship this year are running a saloon libra class I believe.

Exactly. You wouldn't on the off chance build a single seater and expect it to be elligable for F1 (or any other single seater series) without first looking at the rules. Why would you expect the same in a saloon car?

As Ben says, you may well find a championship class that means that you will have fun competng against similar out-of-class cars.

Personally I'd love to see your car at a hillclimb.

Im not saying its not fun lads, i was just saying.. from a point of view of getting people into motorsport i think a road libre class would be good.

I know what your saying though, for me id just put some slicks on and be more or less there anyway.

Probably do some events at curborough towards the end of the year Will. Was going to do the championship but ive already missed one event and the car isnt ready yet.

Im in the same position, im building my car to be used for track days etc, and I'd love to have a go at hill climbing, but I wouldn't want to have to modify the whole car to qualify for a class.

For those down South West way, the Downton Engineering Works Social Club has a speed series which has quite relaxed classes. I will be entering it once I have got the required clothing and a trailer to take the car to events - so more then likely next year now to be honest.

There is no easy answer. Speed events are great for standard road cars. Good for modified road cars, but you have to be careful what you modify. If you go outside of the rules then you end up in mod prod or sports libra. As soon as that happens you need roll cages and all the associated safety gear.

The problem for most on here is that although the cars are road legal, they are well beyond the road going modification rules so will fall into mod prod. At the moment mod prod won't allow a mini to run a turbo over 1000cc, so you then end up in sports libra. Hence our cars. The rules are changing hopefully and soon 1400 turbo minis in mod prod will be allowed in the upto 2000cc class.

It will be almost impossible to out law them from the class. Individual cars might be thrown out on a technicality, but you can't outlaw a mini from series production as a whole.

Tell me more!

Can I get away with my cut out rear bench? Fibre glass front? Lack of interior (although this can be put back in)? Plastic Windows? 1B tyres?

Unintentionally i've built an unusable car, I cant even enter it in an autosolo.

These rules to keep motorsport cheap have meant that I need to build a new car!

You could have entered your porker in a roadgoing class.

Your car will definetly end up in mod prod (keep quiet about the rear bench). It is only in mod prod that you can move capacity class. There maybe a few sticking points. If you sent me some photos of your car I could make a list to get you started, i doubt that it will be much.

You have at least a year until the changes take place, although there is no gurantee that they will yet. If our paths cross during the year we could discuss it in detail.
